Cancer Control Members receive School of Medicine New Investigator Faculty Research Grant
Drs. Jacqueline Kim, Sunmin Lee, and Edward Kuan, Cancer Control Members, receive School of Medicine New Investigator Faculty Research Grant. The overall goal of this funding mechanism is to help early-stage investigators in the School of Medicine obtain extramural funding and to promote collaborative interdisciplinary research.

Shawn Griffin Receives 2023 HOPA Early Career Research Grant
Shawn Griffin, health sciences assistant clinical professor, at the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, has received a 2023 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association Early Career Research Grant. The grant will fund a correlative pharmacokinetic study to the ADAPT trial (principal investigator Stefan Ciurea from the UCI School of Medicine) that is about to open at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Getting better results with “GET” therapy for young adult testicular cancer survivors
Associate professor of population health and disease prevention, Michael Hoyt, PhD, developed new behavioral therapy that he and his collaborators suggest could provide much needed support to young adult testicular cancer survivors. Their research is published in the journal Annals of Behavioral Medicine.

Hallmarks to improving pancreatic cancer therapy identified by UCI researchers
Scientists from the University of California, Irvine, the University of Michigan and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have made a significant contribution to the field of pancreatic cancer research. Their new study presents several crucial themes in the biology of pancreatic cancer that can serve as hallmarks for pancreatic cancer therapy. These themes include genomic alterations, metabolism, the tumor microenvironment, immunotherapy and innovative clinical trial design. The study appears in the journal Cell.

UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge returns on Oct. 7 to raise funds for life-saving research
On Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge participants and supporters will gather at UCI Aldrich Park to enjoy festivities dedicated to raising funds and awareness for critical cancer research. Individuals who register to ride, run, walk or volunteer can get involved in person or virtually.
