The research must have strong cancer-relevance; basic, clinical, and population research are all acceptable. The bridge funding is intended to provide financial support to allow investigators to resubmit their NIH grant applications for further consideration. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Learn More about the A1 Bridge Funding Opportunity APPLY NOW Overview The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) will provide up to $20,000 in bridge funding to investigators who have received scores on NIH grant applications (i.e., not triaged) that have missed the funding pay line and will be resubmitted. This A1 Bridge funding opportunity aims to support promising cancer research projects that have the potential to significantly impact cancer treatment, diagnosis, prevention, and improve patient outcomes. The research must have strong cancer-relevance; basic, clinical, and population research are all acceptable. The bridge funding is intended to provide financial support to allow investigators to resubmit their NIH grant applications for further consideration. Eligibility Requirements Principal Investigators (PIs) must be UCI faculty, CHOC Hyundai Cancer Institute-affiliated physicians, or collaborators at the Long Beach VA Medical Center. PIs must be CFCCC Member at the time of award. Must have submitted a grant application to NIH that received a score (i.e., was not triaged) but was not funded. Must intend to resubmit the grant application to the NIH within the allowable period (37 months). Resubmitted grant application must be scored as 75-100% cancer-relevant as defined by the CFCCC’s rubric. Award Information Up to $20,000. No salaries, large equipment (e.g., >$5K), travel, and indirect costs. The award period is for one year. Funds must be fully spent within the award period. All funds are expected to be expended during the term or at the time of resubmission. One proposal per applicant is accepted each year. Project Detail Cover Sheet Score and status of grant proposal Study section Critiques For reference: Grant Application (research plan only) and NIH Biosketch Response to Reviewers' Critique Include a 1-page description of how the funds will help address critiques and increase chances for funding at resubmission Revised Specific Aims (if applicable) Timeline (milestones to submission) Date of planned resubmission Review Criteria: Responsiveness to study section critique and likeliness of obtaining funding at resubmission. Applications that have been scored or ranked within the 5% of NIH's published funding pay line for the funding center or institute will receive automatic bridge funding. Reporting: CFCCC will track the outcomes of each award through annual progress and impact reports. Progress Reports: Due 12 months and 24 months from the start date of the award. Impact Reports: Due annually for a period of 5 years after the project end date.
