Education For High School Students For Graduate Students Oncology Summer Internship (OSI) For Faculty Cancer Clinical Trial Bootcamp Mentorship, Education & Training Program Oncology Summer Internship (OSI) Home Education For Graduate Students Oncology Summer Internship (OSI) Now Accepting Applications for 2024 Applications due: March 1, 2024 APPLY NOW Experience the "Life of a Cancer Care Physician" The 4-week Oncology Summer Internship (OSI) offers first-year medical students interested in serving Orange Country's diverse populations an immersive exploration of oncology-related specialties. This comprehensive and full-time program integrates clinical shadowing, networking, and mentorship, enriched by weekly reflections and social activities. Participants will establish connections with oncology leaders and local community partners in Orange County through: 20-30 hours of weekly clinical shadowing partnership-Business-teamwork-solution-Puzzle 10-12 hours of disease-oriented team and tumor board meetings 20-25 hours of specialized seminars and panel discussions 2-6 hours of weekly social activities Juan Pablo Hoyos, 2022 OSI participant "The OSI offered invaluable lectures, clinical exposure, and operating room time that significantly aided my progress through MS2 and more importantly during rotations as I am now in the tail end of my 3rd year...I am proud to say that since then I was able to be part of a team [with another OSI participant] that published a paper titled “Novel combination approaches to locoregional and systemic therapy in the management of primary and metastatic liver tumors,” which was a featured article in the December issue of Clinical Advances in Hematology & Oncology. This would not have been possible if it were not for the individuals I met during the OSI program. I am not sure exactly what type of surgical specialty I will ultimately commit to in the future, but I do know surgical oncology is high on my list." Timeline & Eligibility Timeline: Applications Open: January 22, 2024 Deadline: March 1, 2024 Notifications: March 15, 2024 Program Dates: June 10 - July 12, 2024 (with breaks in observance of the Juneteenth and 4th of July holidays). Eligibility: Must be a first-year medical student interested in serving Orange County's diverse populations. Full-time availability is required for participation in all program activities from June 10, 2024 to July 12, 2024. FAQs Is this a paid internship? Each student will receive a $3,000 stipend at the beginning of the program to cover living expenses. Why should I apply? Where will program activities take place? The majority of clinical shadowing will take place at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA, but some may occur at clinics around Orange County. Social activities and lectures will be held at Sprague Hall in Irvine, CA. Disease-oriented team and tumor board meetings take place on Zoom. All locations will be communicated in advance.
