The Science of Mind-Body Interactions in Cancer Survivorship with Dr. Julienne Bower This lecture will focus on the interactions between psychology and the immune system in cancer patients and survivors through examination of the links among the central nervous system, the immune system, and tumor biology. A central focus of Dr. Bower’s work is on the translation of basic findings in psychoneuroimmunology into effective behavioral interventions for cancer patients and survivors.

Structural and Social Drivers of Health and Cancer Health Disparities Research Lecture given by Dr. Scarlett Lin Gomez, MPH, PhD, University of California, San Francisco, in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We are increasingly aware of the impact of structural and social determinants as fundamental drivers of health inequities, but how do we design and implement population-level studies to investigate the role of these factors? This presentation will present a framework and examples of "cells to society" studies utilizing this framework.
Start-up Creator Series (Day 2) To stimulate new innovations responsive to the needs of cancer patients and treatment providers, we are hosting a start-up generator event designed to leverage Orange County’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to improve the lives of cancer patients. The event will showcase patient and physician experiences in focus-group panels and culminate in a “Pitch Day” with TED-style talks to drive development of market-driven innovations. The events are intended for an audience of faculty, students, venture capitalists, funding agencies, patient advocacy groups, startup co-founders and key opinion leaders including but not limited to cancer patients and their families.
