The Mass Spectrometry Shared Resource (MSSR) is a shared resource of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Its mission is to support Cancer Center members and cancer researchers with expertise and services in mass spectrometric analysis of proteins, oligonucleotides, metabolites, and drugs.

The MSSR assists cancer center investigators in conducting and communicating research of the highest possible quality. The primary activities of the MSSR include consultation on project goals, analytical design, choice of instrumentation, method development, data collection, interpretation, and manuscript preparation. MSSR staff provide collaborative and technical support at all stages of research, from experimental planning to publication.

The MSSR has participated in translational and fundamental cancer research through advanced mass spectrometric analyses including proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and molecular characterization. This support includes expertise in instrument selection and development, as well as consideration for data collection parameters, quantitative strategies, and methods to obtain valid and reproducible results.

• High-resolution and targeted mass spectrometry for proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics
• Protein characterization including post-translational modifications (PTMs) and cross-linking analysis
• Quantitative and qualitative profiling of small molecules and peptides
• Consultation on analytical method development and data interpretation
• Training and education in mass spectrometry workflows and data analysis
• Collaborative project support, publication, and grant assistance
